Thomas Hobbes states throughout the document that men can not control themselves and their actions without a "commonpower" or leader, but couldn't this leader cause just as much trouble with the decisions he makes?

According to Thomas Hobbes idea: humans are evil and need a commonwealth, if he say that then there is still no need for a commonwealth, because the commonwealth is still a human and a human is evil.

-When People of the same community give they're different will to one leader, and this leader only make the half of the people wills, and do not accomplish the will ofthe other half of people, this half of people will be again the king and the other one with thw king, so it would started a war agains man and man of the same communtity?

- why is it that man is supposadly unable to control himself without a leader or, as Thomas Hobbes states, a "common power". Wouldnt the leader himself, at times, not be able to control himself aswell?
"Solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short." That is the life Hobbes described for those wild beings.
Wouldn't These wild people become united in the end anyway? What I mean is, they would be united as family and friends? Wouldn't they become more...trusting of each other because they are looking for their own health? Kill or be Killed can't last forever.

How is it that man, supposadly, can not control himself unlike a leader or, as Thomas Hobbes writes, a "commmon power"?
My DPD:
If Thomas Hobbes believes that all humans are evil, and that they require commonwealth or a leader to be at peace, the leader would also be evil because he believes all humans are evil and the leader is a human. If the leader is evil, would it not lead to chaos instead of peace?

ok so it seams like everyone has a different DPD for the document. is there any one point that we all have qustions about? most dpds are about the nature of man and the idea of common power and comon wealth.. is there any way we could combine the ideas into a class DPD?
I tried to combine all the ideas as Isa said.
- If humans are equally born as an evil, which means they are greedy and desire the things, how could they select a sovereign, who has all the power to control them?

DPD:
Thomas Hobbes, throught the reading says that man are week. That we need a ruler, or as he says "common power" to work. Is that really true, or could we as civilized people be albe to live without a ruler?

I think that our class DPD should be something realted with the idea of "common power". A lot of us are having questions on that ex.: Leah, Matt, Thomas, Hannah, and someone Anonymous...
I also think JY´s is awesome because like cici added.. pretty much everyone had a DPD that included somthing about a common power, or sovereign, or leader..
so JY summed it all up very well..
i dunno.. what do u think?? :P

I think JY put it very well. We all know that Thomas Hobbes has stated alot about a "Common power" and how he thinks that when it comes down to it, that men are purely selfish and want glory. And if so, then how could they be able to pick a sovergn? I totally agree with JY. :)
